BonkEnc : Encode and convert any type of audio file

Bookmark and Share

There are a few good freeware audio converters out there, but none handles more formats than BonkEnc. It pulled way ahead of the pack in the latest snapshot builds, which added support for a bunch of formats I've never heard of (that's a good thing) as well as it's first proper 64-bit build.

The GUI is admittedly rudimentary, even ugly, but it does get the job done. I normally consider an intuitive and clean GUI an important part of any successful app, but with BonkEnc I've decided to look the other way because of it's featureset.

For encoding, the native LAME MP3 encoding is my go-to format, but OGG, WavPack, MP4/AAC, and others are natively supported as well. For decoding, you'd be hard pressed to find a format that BonkEnc doesn't support. Unfortunately (but not surprisingly), BonkEnc won't strip DRM protection. The only other downside is that it currently won't extract audio from video files (if you need to do this, take a look at Any Audio Converter).
