InfraRecorder : The open source, all in one burning solution

Bookmark and Share

Not long ago everyone seemed to be using either Nero or Roxio for burning CDs. But Nero made a bloated blunder of versions 6 and on, and Roxio has always been that way. In recent years, free alternatives have been getting better and better, and the pinnacle of these is InfraRecorder.

What defines a burning suite? The ability to do all things burning related - burn CDs and DVDs, audio, video, data, disc images, etc. A few good free burning suites have come and gone (like DeepBurner); some are still out there, doing well (CDBurnerXP). But as time passes, and development slows to a halt, they become more and more obsolete by the latest constantly-changing standards.

InfraRecorder is a relatively new player, but it has already implemented features no other free burning suite has done. Most notably, InfraRecorder is open-source and has native 64-bit and portable versions available. Though the program is stable enough for everyday use, it really is still in its infancy, not having reached the 1.0 version mark yet (nor in the near future). But we can be assured with the progress already made, that as it continues to be developed, more and more exciting features will be added. Let's just hope this developer sticks with it.

Other Burning Suite freeware to keep an eye on:

Note: InfraRecorder cannot yet burn BluRay discs. For a freeware BluRay burning program, try BurnAware Free. Also, if you are unable to burn gapless audio CDs to your burner with InfraRecorder, try Burrrn or CDBurnerXP.
